Griffinstein sits down with his childhood friend Revolutionary Rika. They talk about school reform, dealing with trauma, and old Camp Mendocino memories. Rika has over thirty years of community work logged. Specializing in youth and community outreach. She is currently working on her Doctorate in hopes of building “tables” for Black folks. Giving them a chance to sit and discuss solutions. Not waiting to be invited to others “tables” and not being able to talk.
Revolutionary Rika has accepted this moniker, because she believes the current education format is antiquated. Whose sole purpose is to keep the masses as tax paying robots. While steadily striving for the illusive “American Dream”. A revolutionary is one who is involved in or has brought a complete or dramatic change. This is what Rika hopes to do against racism, the current education merit system, and systemic trauma felt by children. Her first mission is to combat ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences. Without dealing with trauma, a child will not fully engage in school work and could possibly fall through the gaping gaps in the current educational wasteland.
Rika is from Fillmore in San Francisco and ran The Mo’ Magic non profit. Now, she is firmly on target to start a “Voices for Black Women” non profit. This program will also have cohorts for White women, Latina women, and Asian Women. In hopes of giving women a voice and the ability to “walk in their purpose”. Rika will become a powerful force in the Bay Area and eventually globally. She has a plan, she has the drive, and she is attaining the knowledge everyday. Enjoy Episode 17.
